Go Go Go Go Go Review by: Liza, Sep 15, 2011 |
| This is not a show where you can leave your brain at the door. While it can be hilarious, it's also moving and extremely interesting. It tackles a serious subject matter with beauty and sensitivity and will leave you uplifted. If you want a mindless musical, there are plenty of offerings on Broadway. If you want to be inspired, see "Billy Elliot". |

Incredible, Amazing, Phenomenal Review by: Lawson, Sep 9, 2011 |
To the poster who wonders how anyone could love this show, I can say that I am not usually an obsessive person, but I have seen the show five times on Broadway, once in London, once in Chicago, and plan on seeing it in Los Angeles next year. I have been going to Broadway shows since the original "My Fair Lady", so I've seen at least a few hundred. I have never, and I mean never, seen a show that hit me so emotionally and drew me so deeply into ... read more the story. What better message can there be than "it's OK to go for your dreams" and "to be who you are". I love the fact that in the midst of Billy's turmoil that was his life, he pursued his dream and was able to achieve it. Along with the message and the story, I thought the entire production was phenomenal. First of all, the dancing and choreography was incredible, and the talent on stage was outstanding. The dancing was exciting, vibrant and alive--not rehashed aerobics like so many shows. The music was powerful and memorable. I love the fact that Elton John and Lee Hall were able to capture not only the folk music of Northern England, but also able to write stirring anthems. If you really listen to the words, they truly compliment the story, are extremely articulate and very often hilarious. Again, not like a lot of other shows that think rhyming moon and june are good lyrics. Overall, I was knocked out by this show. Although nothing can compare to my first viewing, I have continued to be amazed and moved not just by the production and the talent, but by the entire message and the story. This is one of the few shows I've seen that truly deserves the word "masterpiece". |

story wasn't good, singing was worse Review by: Teresa, Sep 7, 2011 |
| This was my first Broadway show and what a disappointment! I went with a friend of mine and with my 10-year old daughter. None of us liked it at all, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. The story wasn't good, and the singing was worse. I go to quite a bit of theater up in NY's capital district, and I don't think I've seen anything quite as bad as Billy Elliot. I am honestly at a loss as to how anyone could love this production and feel ... read more like it was a total waste of money. |

Great show and awesome dancing! Review by: Bway, Jul 28, 2011 |
| I went to see this show a few months ago (my review is a little late). My husband and I really enjoyed it. The story is touching but it still had it's funny moments. The dancing was amazing. The role of Billy was played by Joseph Harrington and he was awesome! I highly recommend it! |

Very good, although the profanity was a little much, good show though! Review by: Ryan , Jul 5, 2011 |
Although I occasionally found myself cringing while watching my 7 and 11 year olds listening to kids around their age dropping the f-bomb, Billy Elliot was still an awesome show! The music was great, and the set was amazing, the costumes nothing special. The acting was very good, however the story was a little hard to follow. Bring tissues for the sad parts and do NOT wear mascara. Also be warned that the Act I finale is VERY loud, so ... read more if you have sensitive ears, bring earplugs or just cover your ears. Other than that, you should be fine. Enjoy the show! |

Absolutely amazing. Review by: parker, Jul 2, 2011 |
| This is one amazing show, heart touching, high energy, great vocals, and of course the dancing was pretty good also. One of the best all time musicals to hit broadway in the last 10 years. |

AMAZING, quit hating. Review by: , Jun 20, 2011 |
| okay, for everyone who is complaining about the children's language and the little girls sitting on the miner's laps...quit it. this musical as about so much more than that. The dancing was without a doubt some of the best work i've been on Broadway yet. Tade Beisinger played Billy and I could sit there and watch him perform for hours. He was amazing, such talent at such a young age. Everyone needs to look past the language and ... read more appreciate the talent that is being demonstrated. |

Review by: marsh57, Jun 4, 2011 |
| Too many vulgar words for the audience (preteen especially), too loud in your face and just missing the beat. How many times must Gram flip people off??? Just as too much of a good thing can be bad, less is more with the 'piss offs," etc. Dancing was great. Movie much better. |

a bit dissapointed dont believe the hype Review by: Miguel , Jun 3, 2011 |
| So knowing that this show won best musical and that the tickets were the hard to get of the season about a year ago i expected this show to live up to the hype. Don't get me wrong the dancign in this show gave me chills, but there wasn't really a singer that stood out to me at all and i was looking for that in any broadway show i see. The michael was the show stopper i found he was even better than the billy. some of the production i didnt ... read more really like but some parts i was truly blown away by. I find that you cant believe the hype of a show. |

A 5 star play well worth seeing Review by: Starlight, May 29, 2011 |
I saw the play on Saturday May 28,2011 in NYC. It's a play that deeply touched me heart. I found it very easy to understand what the coal miners were going through, but at the same time I found it very easy to emphasize with Billy Elliot. I loved all the music and actors in the story and feel that Elton John produced a high quality play. Never go by what people say. Just read what the story is about and see if it's ... read more possible the story has a chance to touch your heart. If you have not seen the Billy Elliot,I would go to see it. |

The best show ever Review by: al, May 19, 2011 |
| This probably the best stage show i have ever seen...for those knocking it..think about the era and the area it is set in..i grew up in the UK with the miners strikes as headline news...it brings that era to life so wonderfully. for those of you not familiar with the time then watch the film first and i am sure you will enjoy the stage show even more. |

Good choice, glad it was made Review by: Libermeansfree, May 11, 2011 |
| Two years ago I went with my drama troupe to NYC. We had a choice of seeing The Lion King or Billy Elliot. I'm not sure why, but my drama troupe leader, seeing all the five year olds in our group, chose BE. As a twelve year old then? I loved it. I was astounded and amazed, and I would go back and see it in a heartbeat. Great music and story, it was practically perfect. I got to see the excellent Tommy Batchelor and he did ... read more completely spectacularly! However, it does involve a lot of cursing, so for anyone not into that, I would stay away. |

"Best Show You'll Ever See" NAH!!!!!!!!! Review by: Disguted Theatergoer, May 7, 2011 |
| I waited for over 2 years to see this show, everytime I went to get tickets the show was sold out. I finally got tickets on Wed. April 27th at 2:00p.m. through TKTS, Paid $70.00 for the 2nd to the last row of the orchestra. Well, I should have saved the $70.00 bucks cause the show was NOT that good. I loved the movie but thought the show was so-so and way to long and drawn out!It was hard to hear the actors and their heavy British accent ... read more didn't help matters much. I really didn't appreciate the children cursing in the show ( one little girl offered Billy the chance to see her "hooodie" in the bathroom and another little girl called Billy a very inappropriate name") NOT Necessary in a Broadway show!! I really wanted to like this show but found myself dosing off and looking at my watch to see when the show would end more than once. A GOOD Broadway show tends to grab your interest fast and never lets it go till the end of the show. This one DIDN'T! Sorry Billy but this was NOT the "Best Show I'll Ever See" By a LONG SHOT!!!! |

I was waiting and waiting for it to be over Review by: artique, Apr 28, 2011 |
| I hadn't seen the movie and hadn't read the plot - I like to see things with a fresh perspective, not expecting things to happen, so I avoid reading about plots and reviews. Anyway, from the very start, it is not very clear what the story will be about. Then it progresses with a lot of mixed dancing - cops, miners, and ballet girls in scenes together and I cannot see any reason why or for what purpose. I think the story is a good story, I ... read more just think that throwing everyone in to one dance scene is confusing and boring. The best scenes were the simple ones with emotion, good dialogue, and good dancing/singing. I was embarassed at the children's dialogue (no matter if that's the way they truly speak in N England Mine towns). None of the songs stuck in my head (like 9 to 5 or Fiddler or Chicago). The acting was good, though and so was the singing. Frankly, all in all, I thought it was OK, but not worthy of all these praises everyone is throwing. |

A Work of Art Review by: James R, Apr 23, 2011 |
| I truly don't understand some people's hang-up with the language in this show. It's not like it's a David Mamet play, where every other word is a swear word. Yes, there are certain instances when four letter words are used, but it's not like you've never heard the words before. And remember that this show takes place in a tough mining town in the far north of England. The kids grew up in a tough environment, and that's the way they spoke. ... read more If you deny yourself this show because you are afraid of hearing some swear words, then you will be missing a true masterpiece. This show is a work of art that will move you and make you laugh, cry and possibly change you. The use of "bad" language takes up maybe a total of three minutes in a three hour show. Don't let that define your theatre-going experience. If you do, there are probably less than five shows currently on Broadway that are available to you. |
