Felt the play couldn't decide if it wanted to be a comedy or drama. I felt it would have been more biting and impactful if mother were more bitter with less of a comedic bent.
Mostly good to excellent acting, but felt some actors weren't convincing enough at the most emotional moments. |

August is a must! Review by: , Dec 6, 2007 |
| I am a sophisticated, experienced theater goer and this is one of the best plays I have ever seen. Great acting and I loved the way serious issues were dealt with honest humor...do not miss this play! Don't let the 3:15 running time scare you away as the play just flies by. |

Dysfunctional on a new level Review by: Nico, Dec 6, 2007 |
The audience insisted on a second curtain call even though the cast had headed to the dressing room and the house lights were on.
The evening runs 3.5 hours and time just flies. You want the cast to come back quickly and continue the story. You can't get enough.
The cast is fabulous! |

A+ Acting But Much Too Long Review by: TheaterJunkie, Dec 3, 2007 |
| A+ acting and very intelligently written, but story isn't compelling enough to go on (...and on) for 3.5 hours. Needs a good editor. |

December: New York County says SKIP IT!!! IT'S A BIG BORE!! Review by: NEENEE, Dec 2, 2007 |
Am I the only person who thinks this so-called "show" about a dysfunctional family is merely a bad sitcom in disguise? This group needs strait-jackets, interventions, and/or a good, swift kick in the behind. I've never witnessed a less engaing bunch of characters-and I do mean characters! DR. PHIL wouldn't touch this group. Watching this play is like sitting through a long, boring, not-so-funny presentation of "Mama's Family" on TV.... read more. And why does everyone, young or old, use profanity in practically every sentence? Whose family actually talks like this? Does yours? I doubt it. This is a desperate playwright's attempt to hold your attention. Well, it doesn't work. It just seems phony. Save your time and money and get tix to THE FARNSWORTH INVENTION- a far better, more intelligent play with real people, not bogus ones! |

Very enthusiastic thumbs UP!!! Review by: , Nov 30, 2007 |
| Just as a background, I'm an avid theatergoer who sees a few shows every month. It's been a long time since I've seen an audience so naturally and so quickly stand up on their feet and give a standing ovation at the end of the show. Sure, standing ovations are common for almost any show (even terrible ones) -- a few people would stand up, and then slowly the rest of the audience would follow -- more out of courtesy to actors then because of real ... read more genuine feelings. "August: Osage County"'s standing ovation was immediate and genuine. It's theater at it's VERY BEST! I absolutely loved it! |

Long Days Journey into Oklahoma - With Humor! Review by: Tony W., Nov 28, 2007 |
| I saw this show in Chicago at Steppenwolf. It is a well-written show that is wonderfully acted, set and directed. the story is a roller coaster of emotions from great comedy to serious drama. It is long but flies by and woth the time. |

A must for serious theatregoers....... Review by: Terry, Nov 6, 2007 |
This show was wonderful, great acting and sharp observations, and very funny and moving.
Don't be turned off by the first act, some people walked out, stay and you will be happy that you did. |

This is what good theater is supposed to be! A+++ Review by: The Reaper, Nov 4, 2007 |
| I cannot recommend this show enough. To watch a cast this big interact so smoothly and genuinely is a work of art to behold. At one point I turned to my date and said..."It's like Thanksgiving with my family, but we don't have to spend the night, Thank God. If there is not a character or relative or personality that reminds you of someone in your life...take a better look at your family. The acting is real, simple and beautifully executed. The ... read more emotion and tension between the characters is palpable. I was worried about it being long, (with 2 intermissions) in truth I would have happily watched for three more hours. Damn good American theater. Remember my name, "The Reaper" I am not associated with any of these productions like some of the reviews, completely independent and honest...and this is a bright shining gem of a play. This cast should be very very proud of what they have accomplished. A living breathing portrait of the disfunctional families we all play some role in. An absolutely beautiful experience, pain, issues, demons, conflicts and all!!!--------The Reaper |
