| A fantastic show! Sutton Foster is at the top of her game. Joel Grey is great. The whole cast shines. The 10 minute "Anything Goes" production number at the end of Act 1 is fantastic. Beg, borrow or steal but find a way to get tickets for this show. |

Great entertainment Review by: Robbo, Jun 3, 2011 |
| We're visiting from Australia. After having been to Anything Goes, we consider we have experienced Broadway - classic clever musical, performed by a very talented cast and perfect leads. The music, singing, choreography, costumes, sets were just wonderful. The audio mix was very good. Thanks for a great, memorable night. P.S. we're familiar with John McMartin from the delightful Auastralian movie "The Dish" so it was great to see him perform. |

| Loved anything goes!! great show to see, even for kids as young as 12! story line might be difficult to follow for anyone younger, but still! the most fabulous acting, dancing, and singing ive seen in my entire life is at this show! I want to see it again! so full of energy and excitement! during all the songs, you can see that these people really love what they're doing on the stage, and the excitement carries over to the audience! sutton ... read more foster alone is the best reason to go! you may actually get to meet her or other cast members if you wait by the stage door post-show! :) |

Sutton alone is worth the price of your ticket Review by: Edi, May 19, 2011 |
| Sutton Foster is the top reason to see this show...which is saying a lot. The choreography is spectactular, the sets amazing and the supporting cast talented. Still, the reason to go is to see a Broadway born star in her prime singing, acting and dancing. I didn't walk in a die hard Sutton fan, but I left one. If the tap number at the end of Act 1 doesn't convince you, I'll be surprised. I can't imagine her not getting the Tony this year. |

| Not to be missed!!! the best revival of a musical comedy in years, trust me this is one of the best theatre nights ever, you will see fantastic choreography, some of the most beautiful songs ever written by the unforgettable Cole Porter, some of the most energetic, funny, sexy and clever performances now on Broadway. Went last week with parents and my kids and everyone enjoyed it very very much. Actually the next day we saw the terrible, ... read more overproduced and awful Spiderman, and was so happy to see that my kids have good taste and hated Spider and LOVED Anything Goes and War Horse, which is pretty amazing too. Buy for Anything Goes and War Horse in advance, there was a long cancellation line the night we were in at both. |

| Anything Goes is a great show. It's clever, funny, full of energy, and it has some wonderful songs. The only real disappointment for me was Sutton Foster who is basically miscast as the sultry Reno Sweeney. Ms Foster was a natural fit for the lead in Thoroughly Modern Mille, but not so here. Yes, she dances well, looks good, and she can hold a note for a few bars at the end of a song, but she does not have the vocal chops to ... read more really deliver the big numbers such as Blow Gabriel Blow and the title song, Anything Goes. Her voice sounds harsh much of the time, which is perhaps why Reno's big songs in this production feel more like ensemble pieces with a great deal of dancing to compensate for the underwhelming vocals. The last time I saw Anything Goes, Patti LuPone was in the lead role. I found myself wishing it could have been her, or someone with her vocal dexterity, in this production. Overall, this is good but could have been great with the right person in the lead. |

Go to "Goes." Sutton is Anything you could ask for as the lead. Review by: Amelia Zofia, May 13, 2011 |
How can you go wrong with Cole Porter music, Joel Gray as the big name cheese in the mousetrap lure, Jessica Walter from film, and beautiful, energetic singer and dancer, Sutton Foster, as the sun around which the entire play revolves? You can't. With that being said, the first act, at least until the show stopping full ensemble in the Act I finale, Anything Goes, plodded along at times. There was good charachterization, good humor,... read more, naturally good music, but I was expecting more of that Act I song/dance number that brought the house down. The second act flew by, as all the intertwining plots came to a head, but the second show stopper with the Gabriel, Blow Your Horn, came too quickly on the heels of the Act I finale. Is it possible to repeat the Act I finale at the end of Act II. I bet nobody would castigate the director for this unusual adaptation. It was worth repeating. If anything, I applaud all involved with the production as the audience appeared to be in a comatose state. At the end, my wife and sister who were in the first left mezz, were the only two who were giving a standing ovation, while my brother in law and I were in the third row center right mezz and were the only two standing in our section. I thought to myself, "Self, what's wrong with this picture? Do they think there's going to an Act III and wait till then for the standing 'O.' In summary, go! It's a pleasant time for all. |

Great music---terrible storyline Review by: I Love Broadway, May 9, 2011 |
When taking into consideration that Cole Porter was a genius for having written both melodies and lyrics for so many shows and when taking into consideration we saw, in the play, the now 80 year old genius Joel Grey whom, by the way, is one of just 8 actors to win both a Tony and an Oscar for the same role (he was the psychopathic MC of the shows presented in the "Cabaret," and when taking into consideration the tremendously gifted & ... read more gorgeous Sutton Foster who might win a Tony for the show, nonetheless the story line of the show was preposterous, and inane. The music and some of the choreography were wonderful but how they were delivered, based on an awful script, was the "pits." You may ask if my negativism is based on bad seats? No, we had front row center mezzanine. The first act dragged until the last scene while the 2nd picked up steam but not nearly enough. My feeling is that it can't come close to other musicals we've seen such as "Mama Mia, 42nd Street (one of the best shows I ever saw), Showboat (the BEST show I ever saw), Music Man, King and I, Reba in ANNIE GET YOUR GUN and the extraordinary JERSEY BOYS that will eventually become the longest running show ever on Broadway.I am very enthusiastic over Cole Porter's phenomenal compositions but still was disappointed. Incidentally some of Mr. Grey's jokes were met with AUDIENCE SILENCE. I'd rate it a five out of ten. |

What a delightful, de-lovely show!! Review by: Filmandtheatrebuff, May 6, 2011 |
One of the best revivals I have seen on Broadway! I must admit I was a little skeptical of Sutton Foster as Reno at first but seeing the show made me realize I was wrong. Ben Brantley said it best, "Who needs a brass section when you've got Sutton Foster?". She is superb in this role and is a pure delight and deserves to win a second Tony. Kathleen Marshall did an amazing job with her direction/choreography and the rest of the cast ... read more ranged from good to great. The other standouts were Jessica Stone, Adam Godley, Laura Osnes, and John McMartin. I was disappointed in Joel Grey; he had some great moments but he just seemed so lost at times. Jessica Walter did well with a limited role, and Colin Donnell, while charming, seemed very light. I couldn't help but think of Howard McGillan's take on the role. I love the boat set and the lighting used to reflect the time of day, esp. the early morning, was very affective. LOVED IT!!!! |

Too many ways to praise this production Review by: Tom Bestor, May 1, 2011 |
In 1934, when Cole Porter's "Anything Goes" was first produced, the world was in the midst of a depression and people looked to Broadway as a place where they could forget their troubles for a couple of hours. In 2011, we have Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, pirates, tsunamis, nuclear meltdowns, a still-shaky economy, a crazed climate, billionaires becoming birthers, John Kyl telling bald-faced lies on the floor of the Senate and then having a ... read more spokesperson say his comments were "not intended to be a factual statement"...I think we could use a little getaway, too. And the new production of the show, now playing at the Stephen Sondheim Theater is the perfect escape. There are some who confuse humor with wit. No matter, "Anything Goes" has plenty of both and dispenses them liberally. The sets are big and bright and wonderfully deco, the costumes elegant and flashy and fun and the cast -- from Broadway superstar Sutton Foster and veterans Joel Grey, John McMartin and Jessica Walter, all the way down to the excellent chorus -- is brilliant. Adam Godley has all kinds of comic chops and Jessica Stone does an adorable moll. Then there are the songs: "I Get a Kick Out Of You," "Anything Goes," "You're The Top," "It's De-Lovely" and "Blow, Gabriel, Blow" are all standards for a reason. But every aspect of this production is first-rate, and for this, credit must go to director/choreographer Kathleen Marshall and musical director Rob Fisher. Set on an ocean liner crossing from New York to London, the show is like a Shakespearean comedy, with lovers kept apart but finally reunited, ridiculous disguises and mind-boggling misapprehensions. Like Shakespeare, "Anything Goes" can feel very old-fashioned -- guests mingle on board until it's time to sail, and passport control is a little different in the TSA era -- yet despite how clunky the story can be (be prepared to forgive a lot of silliness and throw plausibility overboard) like Shakespeare, the underlying artistry reveals itself in a timeless contemporaneity. Book writers P.G. Wodehouse, et al. had a lot of fun poking at the sanctimonious nature of the clergy and celebrity culture. The same targets are just as vulnerable today. A clerical collar here is always a disguise -- either a way to hide from authorities or fool the faithful. And like some of today's urban culture, the gangster is the biggest celebrity of all. There are too many ways to praise this production, but only one way to see it -- set sail for 43rd Street and a 2.5 hour voyage of escape. It's OK. You've earned it. We all have. |

Not thrilled with Sutton Review by: Callie, Apr 30, 2011 |
| I love this show and Joel Grey was a brilliant choice, but I was disappointed in Sutton Foster. She is still too young, too thin, still too much the ingenue. And yes her dancing was fantastic but she just couldn't blow out Blow Gabriel Blow with anywhere near the lung power and 'tude as Patti LuPone. She's a big name, she'll sell tickets so I can why they gave it to her, but pure talent-wise I think they could have found someone more right for ... read more the part. |

De-wonderful! Review by: CSter, Apr 20, 2011 |
| This is a great show! Sutton Foster is at the top of her craft, and has plenty of opportunity to strut her triple threats in this production. She leads a six-minute dance break during the title song, and then belts out the ending as if she'd been resting in the wings. Joel Grey and John McMartin are simply wonderful. Of course, the songs are masterful. In short, it's a must see. Delightful, de-lovely, de-wonderful. |

Don't miss it! Review by: , Apr 18, 2011 |
| Loved it. This show has everything going for it. Wonderful cast, great sets, costumes, and of course Cole Porter's music. The songs are wonderful, and the dancing superb. The last song of the first act is amazing. This is how Broadway should be. I have to imagine everyone in the cast is having a blast every performance. You and everyone else leaves singing the songs. |
