| I loved this show! I took my cousin to see his first broadway show and he loved it. The music, the acting just amazing! I love the soundtrack for it and the ending scene with everyone on stage with their guitars, was awesome! The drummer was off the chain, made me wanna jump on stage with him!! I did have the time of my life, thank you! |

must go see!! Review by: not a fan before but now is, Apr 17, 2011 |
| I love love love this show!! From the very first start, the energy was just non-stop fun. I've seen the show 5 times, with the original cast and the newer ones and both are great. I esp like Van Hughes's singing voice & embracing of his new lead role to the show. I've seen Billie Joe Armstrong in the role of St. Jimmy 3x and he's great every time. Melissa Etheridge was okay, but BJA really truly oozes St. Jimmy. The story's easy to follow,... read more, the set is beautiful, & I'm amazed how the actors can do so much for 90 min straight. I love this show more and more each time I see it....and there's so much action going on, I noticed something new every time so I haven't gotten tired of it at all. True, it's not for younger kids b/c it shows a lot of drug use and sex. More teenager and up. Go watch it before they close!!!! |

See Melissa Etheridge at St Jimmy this week!! Review by: , Feb 2, 2011 |
Just caught the show last night (during the storm) and really enjoyed the intensity of the performance!! Melissa Etheridge plays for one week only in the role of St. Jimmy and she did an awesome job last night! She belts out the tunes like only she can in true rock form! It is great to see her expand her artistic expressions. She rocked the house! This is definately not a kid show as it deals with simulated sex and drug use ... read more scenes. The music is great - good story line when you pay attention to how the music coordinates a story of struggling to find one's true identity. I loved the ariel performances the best - very intense and well choreographed! Go see this show! |

This is not your typical broadway show, so if thats what you're looking for don't go. I had no idea who or what GreenDay was ,I purchased the tickets on the recomendation of a peer(we're in our 50's)I went with a girlfriend. I was pleasently surprised that a song I love -Wake me when september goes -is by Green day.Along with many other great songs. I saw the show with Billy Armstrong,he was great as was the rest of the cast. This is a very ... read more different show 90 minutes no intermission.Great cast, great music, great setting. There is a "Sex Scene" but as this is going on in the shadows another cast member is singing in spot light.I think if I had brought my 19 year old son I might have been uncomfortable. It's subtle and certainly not distastefull That said,I would still would not recomend bring your children. I was very touched by the message in this play,I plan on seeing this again with my husband. |

Repition Review by: :, Jan 22, 2011 |
| This show is one show you use caution going to, there is sex, and there are drugs. There is also a story for those claiming there isn't one; if you don't listen to the lyrics carefully, it's easy to miss the story. The cast is phenominal and very worth while. Currently, I've seen the show many, many times, and find there's something new every time I see the show. Choreography, lighting, musical arrangements, everything is amazing,... read more, and enthralling. Be prepared for a great show--just remember there's no intermission. |

HEAVY show. very touching moments, loud, NOT FOR CHILDREN!!!! Review by: scarlotta, Jan 22, 2011 |
| I am a big Green Day fan and was so excited to see Billie Joe Armstrong perform in this show and he was great, but the rest of the cast was very strong also, which was pleasantly surprising. If you go just know that the content of this show is quite Mature. There are graphic drug use scenes and sexual scenes too. But the drug use is heavy, and all through the play. Even being an adult, it made me uncomfortable which I'm sure is partly the intent.... read more. It shows the horrors of drugs on society. It has touching moments and an intelligent message. But I'd say NO KIDS period, and even adults beware-if you have had addiction in your or your family's life-this may be too heavy for you. It was for me. It also lacked enough of a story which was a real shame bc a little more development of characters and this could have been a gem of a show. But parts of the show really touch you and some songs are just beautiful. All in all-I'd say give it alot of thought before going. |

In the spirit of "Rent" and "Spring Awakening", "American Idiot" rocks Broadway... Review by: Jonno333@me.com, Jan 16, 2011 |
| I think many of the negative reviews posted here were going in expecting a traditional Broadway show like "West Side Story", and it is not that. What it is is a powerful snapshot of people in their 20's, disaffected and disillusioned by a world and society that promised the American dream, and let them down. It is based on Green Day's "Concept Album" of the same name, and lets the music tell the story, much like the Who's "Tommy" did,... read more, without much dialogue. It is driven by the high energy performances and choreography, and the spectacular visual projections and set. I saw the show twice when it premiered in Berkeley a couple of years ago, and it has only gotten better on Broadway. It is not appropriate for younger teens or children, and includes drug use and sexual situations (but no nudity), but honestly, if they play video games or watch television, this will not be a shock to them. There are consequences for the bad behavior, and a strong message of anti war that is still relevant. "American Idiot" is a relevant and important musical of our times, much like "Hair" was. I would say if you liked "Rent" or "Spring Awakening" or the overlooked and edgy "Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson" you would love this. I saw it twice on Broadway, once last May right after it opened, and again in November, and it has only gotten better. Don't miss it. |

Not family friendly Review by: Mom of three, Jan 5, 2011 |
| American Idiot is the only broadway show that my family of five walked has ever walked out of. I wish that there was a warning posted on the website that this show is not for teens or under. My children are 20, 16 and 11 and I went in knowing it would be edgy but the sex scene went over the edge. It was unnecessary and so uncomfortable. There were younger kids than mine in the audience. They give a warning as you are walking in with your ... read more nonrefundable tickets, but that is too late. Do not take your family to this production. |

Not very appropriate for teens Review by: , Dec 29, 2010 |
| The music was good, but some of the scenes were not appropriate for teens. Explicit sex scene could have easily been left out and many families that where looking around awkwardly would have enjoyed this show much more. It added nothing positive to the play. They also went a little overboard with the drug scenes. |

Great for a concert, not a Broadway musical Review by: Ricky's Redhead, Nov 30, 2010 |
| I went to this show expecting to enjoy it. I enjoyed it as a concert, but certainly not as a broadway musical. The score was fantastic (and I am no Green Day fan), the actors were wonderful, but it just fell short. The production was only 95 minutes long (or 95 long minutes, it all depends on perspective), but it would have benefitted from more "book". The characters were never developed. I couldn't care who got knocked up, knocked out, ... read more or knocked off. Again, if you look at it as a concert, it was wonderful, but as a Broadway production, not so great. |

Surprise. I really was moved and liked it! Review by: goldenboy, Nov 24, 2010 |
Kind of a tone poem performance art piece --expertly staged and choreographed and totally moving. I was surprised I liked it as I am not a fan of Rent or Spring Awakening. A very exciting show about the bleakness of American Youth and their journey. I am a 55 year old man and I related to it.
The set and staging are maginficent. |
