Give It a Miss Review by: Theatre Goer, Dec 6, 2009 |
An exercise in poor acting (overdone and unconvincing), poor direction ( absolutely no dramatic tension) and a weak storyline. I wouldn't recommend this one - to anyone. |

Couldn't stop thinking about the play Review by: Rachel, Nov 30, 2009 |
I went to see this show because I love Johnny Lee Miller, I was curious about Sienna Miller, but didn't really care enough about her! The play was superb, the acting, IMO was great as well, contrary to many other reviews, i really felt chemistry between the 2 Millers! The odd thing about this play was that I couldn't get it out of my head for days after, it makes one think and think. Maybe some people prefer not to think. |

Jonny Lee Miller excellent Review by: , Nov 25, 2009 |
I saw this a couple of weeks ago and went in with very low expectations. I didn't love it, but I liked it. I agree with another reviewer that Marin Ireland's accent was all over the place, but I was able to push that aside and thought she pulled off her character. Siena Miller's character came off as unstable and not really sympathetic. Jonny Lee Miller was by far the best. I also kind of liked that the ending was left for ... read more interpretation. Overall not outstanding, but something a little different that leaves you thinking (if you wish). |

Wasted Talent Review by: Carol, Nov 2, 2009 |
| The acting is fine. The play is almost intolerable. Strindberg was a misogynist, but Julie is the most manipulative woman on Broadway for no reason than pure spite. There is no redeeming quality to this play other than excellent acting. |

not bad, but not good Review by: bettrick12, Oct 31, 2009 |
| After reading the previous reviews - I agree that the lighting was the primary star. Didn't mind the silences, but direction and timing did not flow to create or hold any gripping energy. Its obvious that the play is aiming for sexual tension, but (in my opinion) it isn't really achieved. There simply isn't any chemistry between Sienna Miller and Johnny Lee Miller (not that I could pick up on). JLM is natural and likable, but SM is ... read more forced and false. It was too obvious that Sienna Miller was trying to perform, her speech was unnatural and over-rehearsed. We New Yorkers are a tough crowd, its true, but Roundabout is a seasoned host to New Yorkers... Overall, it wasn't BAD, it just wasn't good. |

Enjoyable Enough... Review by: Jen, Oct 18, 2009 |
| I thought Jonny Lee Miller was outstanding, Sienna Miller fine, but with a tendency to speak very clearly and loudly in a rather unnatural way, and Marin Ireland was dreadful. Sometimes she sounded welsh, sometimes irish, sometimes a mix of various english dialects and sometimes i just couldn't understand her at all. I did enjoy it however, but do wish you felt more of the passion - there didn't seem to be any electricity between the ... read more characters at all, which made the events as they unfolded feel even more bizarre. |

| Dear Lord, an hour and a half of Sienna shrieking. The whole cast was terrible, the plot was dull, pacing slow. The ending was almost a relief. Don't waste your money. |

Good play for those who love Brit actors and subject Review by: Skylla, Oct 10, 2009 |
| Sienna Miller plays Miss Julie, an upper class society girl, with one motive to seduce her father's valet, John, played by Jonny Lee Miller on the eve of the Labour Party's win in England. She is a complete diva played as such by Sienna Miller toying with John's emotions dizzying the audience with extremes of love and hate. Of course, this gets tiresome after a while since Sienna Miller tends to yell to make her point of equality ... read more versus superiority and breaking of class rules across. Jonny Lee Miller's performance was refreshing and quite natural as the valet. His diction was superb and on stage during the matinee performance I watched he did not appear to miss a beat. Marin Ireland played Christine, a savvy cook who knows her station as a servant, engaged to John, the valet. Her performance was delightful despite the long pauses which the audience is subjected to during the course of an hour and half of her working habits. This of course is to make the point of how tedious and repetitive it is to work in a servant's role. However, New York audiences are not tolerant of those pauses including myself. The entanglement between Julie, Christine and John calls for some interesting chemistry. I do agree with one of the other reviewers about the set table being too long for the actors to interact better with each other. Cut it down! I also agree that this play has Broadway worthy lighting showing us true dawn, dusk and night through the windows of the kitchen. Overall, I recommend it if you are willing to see an interesting performance by Jonny Lee Miller and tolerate long boring pauses. Overall- *** |

Simply Amazing Sienna Review by: madvee, Oct 9, 2009 |
| I thought Sienna Miller was wonderful in the play. I was surely amazed that she had so much depth as an actress. I haven't seen such a performance ever. I would recommend this play to anyone who wants to see what acting should be. |

Sienna Shines Review by: June, Oct 5, 2009 |
Sienna Miller shines as the title character Miss Julie. She truly puts on an exceptional display. She displays such range in her performance. She really embodied the role, I could NOT take my eyes of her. She was suberb and she impressed me a great deal. I hope she gets recognized for this tremendous performance. Johnny Lee Miller was very good as was Marine Ireland, however it is Sienna who stole the show for me. The play was filled ... read more with intensity. I could see the chemistry between all the characters. The lighting, costumes and music were simply outstanding which really added to the atmosphere of the play. Congratulations to the lead actors, and especially Sienna Miller for a remarkable portrayal. |

Actors hurt by bad plot and worse directing! Review by: glass, Oct 5, 2009 |
| The Roundabout Theatre tries to cover all its bases by putting on a large number of performances to please its large subscription base. Where this play fits in its scheme I have no idea. Only 90 minutes long, it seems to go for hours, even offering "dead air" where no actor spoke for an exasperatingly long time. Ultimately, the plays plot is a disaster, where you leave not liking any of the characters, wondering "what was I watching?" |

The lighting is the only aspect of the show that shines! Review by: , Oct 4, 2009 |
| I didn't go expecting a great show; I was more interested in seeing Sienna Miller in the lead, but I really didn't expect it to be as lackluster and boring as it was. The premise of the play is so promising and done well would make for powerful theater; however, this adaptation was simply not well staged or timed. The actors don't connect with the audience, or more importantly, with each other. A few moments of drama could not make up for ... read more interminably long "dramatic" pauses (We got it! Get on with it!)or disappointing lack of chemistry among the cast of three. Sienna Miller should've sizzled in this role. Best part of the show was the wonderful lighting! |

Powerful and authentic drama Review by: Mia, Sep 30, 2009 |
I don't think I breathed for an hour and a half. The acting and story line were that powerful. If you were expecting a comedy or have a short attention span, maybe you would be disappointed but for pure period drama, it was wonderful. All three actors gave it their all and yes, there were a few laughs but mostly intensity and enough shock to give the audience several collective jolts.

Boring Review by: playfan, Sep 27, 2009 |
| I saw this show at the weekend and in a word - awful. No set changes, over extended periods of complete silence with no acting - just plain boring. Sienna Miller looks beautiful and acts well but the plot lacks lustre. |
