A FUN SHOW Review by: BigKen, Jun 13, 2009 |
| It's always good to see David Hyde Pierce on Broadway. He is a good actor and did not disappoint in this show. The set was well done and although there was some comedy, I wanted more. It's not the best show on Broadway, but certainly a good one to see, especially with a discounted ticket. I say it's worth the trip! |

Liked it!! Review by: Tish, Jun 1, 2009 |
| My daughter and I enjoyed this play. The set and costumes are very good, and we found the cast to be well suited to their roles. It is a comedy and can't think why someone would think it was not! David Hyde Pierce was at his best, no it's not Curtains, but we think it's well worth seeing. Use your coupon for a great deal! |

Excellent performances Review by: Vicky, May 13, 2009 |
| Saw this show last night and enjoyed it very much. Mary Catherine Garrison is a great leading lady for David Hyde Pierce. They make a wonderful duet. If you love old black and white movies and love stories this is a must see. The humor is very witty. I found myself laughing a lot. Flogdell is great! |

I really enjoyed it! Review by: tany, May 5, 2009 |
I loved David Hyde Pierce in "Curtains" and here he doesn't dissappoint. Don't understand what everyone here's grumbling about, I thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend it heartily. |

Review by: AmyCT, May 3, 2009 |
Also disappointed in this show. We loved David Hyde Pierce in Curtains, and while we thought the acting in this show was fine, the material was dated and tired. I kept waiting for something to happen... and it never really did. We thought Mr. Pierce's talents were never highlighted in this show. Charles Kimbrough had some funny lines, but not many either. At one point I thought I had misunderstood, and it was not a comedy,... read more, but a light drama. But alas, it was not that either. I will still go to the next show David Hyde Pierce joins, but hope he finds one with a better script. |

Disappointing, We Hoped for Better Review by: BroadwayBabySawIt, Apr 29, 2009 |
| We really wanted to like this one. David Hyde Pierce is a great theater actor, loved him in Spamalot and Curtains. But this tired play is not worthy of him. Other than Mr. Pierce, it seems very miscast, he seems surrounded by actors that are not right for the parts, and even this early in the run they seem tired of it. And the emphasis on his age does not work - in the 1930's, when it was written, 53 was clearly considered old, but now ... read more we think people are old around 75 or 80, so the jokes about old age all fall flat, especially because Mr. Pierce is a bundle of energy surrounded by listless actors. Accent on Youth indeed, nothing works when the actor in the play who is the most youthful and fun keeps telling us how very old he is! We also found it hard to hear, because they mumble their lines a lot and talk very fast. Other than Mr. Pierce, there is no need to see this, sadly. Not sure why the MTC keeps running revivals of plays in this lovely theater like American Plan and this one that seem dated and tired. We left at intermission to enjoy a warm evening walking around Times Square, and had a much better time. |

SEE NEXT TO NORMAL INSTEAD Review by: theatre921, Apr 25, 2009 |
| David Hyde Pierce is underutilized in this slight, boring play. The play is flawed & the acting isn't much to scream about. in a positive light, the theatre is gorgeous. |

Subtle, funny, tender, very enjoyable Review by: tjmilo, Apr 22, 2009 |
| My wife and I really enjoyed it. Didn't knock us out of our seats, but it is a subtle, enjoyable play with some very funny and very tender moments. The show began at 7pm and we were out of there at 9pm. Grab the 7pm show and then walk around to La Masseria on 48th street for a late dinner. |

Skip This One Review by: Carol, Apr 22, 2009 |
| What a waste of talent! David Hyde Pierce, the lead playwright in the play, is given a slim piece with which to work. His supporting cast flounders too. |

Accent on DHP Review by: Izzi, Apr 15, 2009 |
Saw the Sat. evening and Sun. matinee this past weekend and if you know the show you will be, as was I, delighted to see it is the *original* 1934 play - word-for-word. Strictly my take on the production: The set, brilliant; the costuming, proper period but didn't care for the choices for the women; the performance - timing is brilliant 'n there are no *slow* moments in the play. The performers - performances really didn't vary but ... read more with the exception of Kimbrough the show is all DHP. It's as tho' the role of Stephen Gaye was written for him. FWIW, Niles, Sir Robin and/or Frank Cioffi are*not appearing in this show*. :-) DHP is truly an amazingly versatile actor who obviously loves what he does. So if you like his work, don't miss this show. If you don't like his work, this show will make a believer out of you! |

David Hyde Pierce makes it worthwhile!!! Review by: Gail, Apr 12, 2009 |
Sweet story and nice acting by all. Although not a profound story, it makes you think.....and makes you laugh. Of course, David Hyde Pierce is great. funny, wonderful to watch, so if you love him....come on down and see him!!! PS: Charles Kimbrough (from Murphy Brown) was also hysterical! |

Not a musical - good but not great story - David Hyde Pierce Great as usual Review by: Wendy, Apr 8, 2009 |
| I don't know what the previous reviewer was talking about. There was NO music, this is NOT a musical. The acting was great but the story was somewhat obscure. David Hyde Pierce can make the audience laugh just by giving a certain look and he was the highlight of the show. There was some funny spots in it but I wouldn't classify it as a comedy per se. I found the story a bit disappointing. |
