Expectations Review by: chester, Sep 30, 2008 |
| Ignore the critics in this case... See the show for yourself. If, like me, you were forced to read Dickens in high school and were not a fan of the novel, please give this production a chance. Yes, there are many similarities to Les Miz and no, it is not as musically as elegant, but it is not the "failure" that I thought I would be experiencing. I am glad that I got the opportunity to see this stage version... and it truly is not yet another ... read more Broadway "revival" or remake of a Disney cartoon. And the audience standing ovation was most genuine. |

| IGNORE THE CRITICS! THEY HAVE TOO MUCH POWER. Do yourself a favor and see the show. It was amazing! I found it better than Les Miz and Phantom. I was crying, laughing, and hoping. I am going to see it again. The voice of James Barbour pierces your heart! The night I went the entire theater was standing and did not want the cast to leave. IGNORE THE CRITICS! SEE THE PERFORMANCE! You will be standing and not wanting to leave. |

FABULOUS Review by: Bon, Sep 30, 2008 |
| This play was without a doubt one of the very best plays I have ever seen. The Times critics must have died upon entering the theater. Everything about it was fabulous, story, acting, singing, costumes, stage, etc, etc. Don't miss it!!!! I would see it again if I lived in NY. |

Review by: L11, Sep 30, 2008 |
| My favorite show has been Hairspray, Altar Boyz, Rent, etc..., but now A Tale of Two Cities is my #1 FAVORITE show!!! The ENTIRE cast, the acting, the singing, the story, the set, and the costume were all ammmazzing. The show was funny, romantic, intense, inspiring, and SO much more. Before seeing the show I thought it could be too "grand" or too "dramatic" for me, but i was completely captivated throughout and until the very end.(actually,... read more, until even long after the show!) A Tale of Two Cities is a MUST see! It is for everyone. I paid full price for my ticket to this show, but it was definitely worth it. |

Great show for this economy Review by: elcubano, Sep 30, 2008 |
| Greed, fear, uncertainty, chaos! I'm talking about our economy, not the French Revolution that A Tale is based on. While the show itself isn't perfect, it is THE perfect show to see during these trying times. It's a great story of love, sacrifice and redemption that will take your mind off the freakin economy for a good three hours. The other reviews are spot on about the the huge disconnect between the critics and the show's entertainment value.... read more. I also agree with what most said about the wonderful set and costumes. While I'm not crazy about some of the songs, they're performed with passion by the fabulous cast. I saw this during the previews and am planning to go back next week with a big group. |

Re: FABULOUS SHOW!! Review by: Theater afficionado, Sep 29, 2008 |
Tale of Two Cities is a fabulous show--I can't believe how unjust and incorrect Brantley was. This is an awesome theatrical experience--wonderful music, an amazingly talented cast, headed by James Barbour, creative sets and lighting, beautiful costumes, etc. The audience LOVED the show, and it consisted of all ages. Go RUN and see this outstanding production!!! |

You will want to see many times!!! Review by: Red123, Sep 29, 2008 |
Great show!!! Un-believable adaptation of Dickens. James Barbour and entire cast will blow you away with their vocals. Story has best ending of any show I have seen in a long long time on Broadway. Large cast and stage, so sitting in balconey was a great seat for this show. |

An Epic Show with a lot of humor and Great Voices! Review by: Epic Lover, Sep 29, 2008 |
What an AMAZING show! Great Music, Great production values. Great story! I haven't felt this strongly about a show since Les Miserables and Phantom of the Opera. The show has a lot of humor and is only 2:15 minutes long..I wanted it to go on longer. A must see! |

Great show Review by: , Sep 28, 2008 |
| This show was excellent. All the acting was great; it's warm and witty and the ending is very emotional. Many in the audience were moved to tears (myself included) and the standing ovation was long and enthusiastic. The music is not very memorable--it's not Gershwin--but it all worked perfectly with the story and the voices are great. A Dickens enthusiast for over 50 years, i found this an amazing rendition of the novel. Bravo to whoever ... read more chose the cast. Do not understand the Times review but so glad we had bought our tickets well before that and hope that the good word gets around. |

Memories to share Review by: Broadway Sadie, Sep 28, 2008 |
this is a jewel of a broadway musical. It makes everything pale in comparison, except fo Les Miz. I bought another set of tickets immediately after i came home from my firsts viewing. to share the experience with my adult daughter, who dislikes big box musicals, was an exhilirating and memorable experience which I am going to replicate with one of my dear friends as an early Xmas gift.. It's a ... read more must see and the "Beast" who plays Sydny Carton and the woman who plays Lucy Manet are unbeatable. The show will have you in tears at the ending--thrilling to the immortal words of Dickens:"Tis a far far better......." You must know the rest of the story. Share the play with a child or grandchild and experience the making of a memory of a lifetime. Then go to the Jekyll and Hyde restaurant for a real hoot of a victorian ending. |
