Gone but not Forgotten Review by: jef, Nov 23, 2010 |
Two years have come and gone and I still think about this show. Many have come, some good, some bad but to me this was a memorable. Cast , story , good music ...it had it all. So sorry they wanted to push Hair into the theatre, given time (word of mouth )it would have gotten a larger audience. I sometimes look back at reviews and this should still be running |

The critics have never ever been so wrong! Review by: , Nov 16, 2008 |
| I'm writing this review a full week after a "Tale" and it's inspiring cast sung their final performance and we all had to say goodbye to thi show far too soon. It's astounding to me that any critic could pan this production. Simple put, it was one of the very best musicals I have ever seen (I am a huge fan of Miss Saigon and Les Mis). Tale some simply the BEST scenery I have ever seen on Broadway, moving music (which I can not tear out of my ... read more mind), and several of the most inspiring and heart felt performances anyone has ever given. James Barbour's voice is truly hunting, and I will forever now seek to see him again and follow his career. I must lastly mention Natalie Toro. She sings the most gripping song in the production (out of sight, out of mind), and she sings the hell out of it. She has never sung it better than she did at the final performance. I'm so sorry if you missed this show, but I must have faith that something so grand will find it's way back to the limelight. When it does, I will be there! |

Gone Too Soon! Review by: jef, Nov 10, 2008 |
Was very sad to hear it closed so soon. I was thinking of going for a third time but will have to be content with the two times I saw it. This was a wonderful show, I will long remember. jef |

They Did Dickens Proud! Review by: Tootles, Nov 8, 2008 |
| As a devoted Dickens fan I was concerned when I heard that Tale would be musical. I am pleased to say that the show was delightful. The story focused more on the human relationships between Carton, Darnay, Manette, and Lucie. It is a story of love, hope, and redemption. So worth seeing. I am so sorry that it is closing on Broadway. I don't know if James Barbour is considering the national tour, but if he is...this is a must see. ... read more He was the shining star of the entire cast. His vocal talent is beyond brilliant. |

Impressive show Review by: JW, Nov 7, 2008 |
Overall, an impressive show. It features a number of talented performers, particularly James Barbour, whose voice is like a musical instrument. The music is generally lovely, often moving, and the lyrics honestly reveal the feelings of the characters. The time period is conveyed beautifully via the meticulous movable sets and costume design. If the show has a weakness, it lies in the storyline, which often seems incoherent and choppy in an ... read more effort to selectively highlight as many of Dickens' plot points as possible. It's unfortunate that the critics have generally panned this show, several comparing it unfavorably to "Les Miz". Based on that standard, most shows would come up short. However, "A Tale of Two Cities" deserved a better fate. Too bad it's closing. |

One of the Best Shows I've seen. Go see it before it closes! Review by: love the theatre, Nov 6, 2008 |
Excellent show. We saw it Nov 5 with friends. Everyone loved the show. The lead was extraordinary. The sets, special effects, comedy moments, and of course the excellent cast makes this a must see. They shared that they will be closing the show in 2 short weeks. GO SEE IT NOW. Can't believe this is closing so soon. We will try to see it again before it closes. Great show. You will love it. |

It would have been a far far better thing I did if I had saved my money. Review by: Doc, Nov 4, 2008 |
Very little that I can say will stop you from thinking that I am just a pretensious Broadway afficionado but here goes. If you very occasionally go to Broadway. As a musical this might be for you. But if you are a Broadway fan, skip it. To say this play was a disapointment is an understatement. The only only thing in the play that was impressive was Mr. Barbours voice. I had no preconsived notion of the musical. However, what I found was a ... read more little Sondhiem here and a lot of "Les Mis" there. It is very light stuff. Nothing memorable. The ensamble singing needed at least 50% more voices to give it enough weight. At the end of the first half curtin my friend and I looked at each other and said to the effect "I'm waiting". Nothing memorable here. I could go on with more negatives as to the cast but these people work very hard and further negatives are not necessary. Save your money. |

Not a grand musical, but very entertaining. Review by: Renee, Nov 1, 2008 |
| Overall, I greatly enjoyed this musical. The music stayed with me, although the lyrics not so much. It definitely featured the Sydney Carton character. There are some problems in pacing, but also some nicely done transitions. Loved the staging and set pieces. There are some things I would have liked to have seen developed more, but good job. |

A good but not great musical Review by: dramadad, Oct 24, 2008 |
| We went to see the October 24th performance and I totally enjoyed Barbour's voice and performance. The music and scenery were not ok but not spectacular. What was the weakest part of the play was the character development (except James Barbour). Otherwise a good, but not outstanding theater production |

My Second Time Around Review by: jef, Oct 22, 2008 |
Even better the 2nd time around. Took a friend who was a big fan of the book and she was in tears by the time the time the curtain came down. Word-of-mouth I hope will keep this show alive, it deserves to be seen. It is Broadway as Broadway was and should be again, no mouse. The actors are amazing and I will not soon forget James Barbour singing, I Can't Recall. It was AMAZING! Can't wait for my 3rd time and am telling all my theater ... read more going friends not to miss it. jef |
