As good as the original Review by: Maddie, May 2, 2007 |
Saw the show last night & thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm an old fan of the show, seen it many times, & this was very good. I have to say though that I thought more than one singer seemed not up to par in the voice department, which leaves me baffled.....They couldn't find good dancers who could also sing well ???!

Still One of a Kind Review by: Jack, Apr 30, 2007 |
A Chorus Line still knocks the socks out of most musicals on Broadway. Sure- a lot of the dialogue is dated, but the shows overall message still rings strong. Michael Bennett's choreography is still inventive and exciting, and the simpliticy of the set and lighting are remain powerful. The performances are generally quite good. Val, Paul and Cassie were particularly good in all regards. Dierdre Goodwin, a fine Broadway performer, is ... read more woefully miscast in the role of Sheila. That role, which normally, brings down the house, was just mildly amusing. Let's stop getting caught up in comparisons to the original in 1975 and sit back and enjoy what is still the best ticket in town.

Filled with "energy" and would love to see it again. Review by: cammor, Apr 30, 2007 |
My husband and I went to see Chorus Line last week (as I had missed it on Broadway years ago) I thought it was great. My husband found it slow at the beginning, but thought it was wonderful as it moved along. The music and all the actors were so believable and brought tears to my eyes..which means they did what they were supposed to do. At this point I do not remember all the names, but they certainly deserve accolades. Thank you

Unconventional musical Review by: JW, Apr 24, 2007 |
"A Chorus Line" is the definitive minimalist musical. The show features virtually no scenic design and few costumes. What it does offer is a very cogent story line; in fact, the plot is so absorbing that this show about dancers could paradoxically almost stand alone without music or choreography. But of course, it is a musical and here unlike many other musicals, the song and dance emanate naturally from the story line--nothing appears ... read more artificial.
In summary, I enjoyed this show, but if are seeking an elaborate musical production, this may not be the one for you. |

Still a Singluar Sensation after all these yars Review by: rskblueyes, Apr 23, 2007 |
Having seen the show 6 times from 1976-80 in numerous venues including Toronto, London. Detroit and with the Original Broadway Cast in the LA run, I was not expecting much of this revival, especially after the reviews and word of mouth.
I saw a performance on 4/20/07, and I was truly amazed how this show still dazzles. It has truly held up for its 33 years and does not feel dated. I admit many things in the show that were shocking ... read more and innovative in 1975, seem run of the mill now. The shows book, music and choregraphy are still a joy.
The shows cast was excellent with the exception of Cassie who's acting was first rate, but her vocals and dancing in Music and the Mirror was sub par.
I was glad to see many people under 30 in the audience so that a new generation can feel the magi of this show. |

On the line -- again Review by: , Apr 23, 2007 |
While we thought this production of "A Chorus Line" compared favorably with what we remember from the original, it does have several flaws. Glaring but critical. First is the new Cassie: she's good and earnest but no Donna McKechnie. Just as Zack says, she "stopped two shows cold." Charlotte d'Amboise lacks the sensuality, the body and the voice McKechnie projected; she also seemed to lack the stamina to sing her song without sounding out of ... read more breath. But it's not fair, perhaps, to compare the all-too-human Ms. d'Amboise (or anyone) to the memory of a goddess some 30 years removed. We saw the original four times during its long run with Ann Reinking of long legs and seemingly longer hair and with someone else whose name escapes. Also saw two traveling companies, one of which cut out Cassie's solo imagine!!??!). Most of the rest of the cast shined, except possibly for the new Paul, whose suffers from d'Amboise syndrome. The new Judy (Lana) Turner (the T and A gal) gives the role a crispness that easily matched the original. Greg was more prominent and memorable than I remembered. And Sheila (the "adult," who when she doesn't come on so strong is aggressive) and, boy, does she fill bathing suit tights. Bobby, Mike, Val, Diana, et all the others, including Zack and the dance captain did their jobs well. But still the real star of "A Chorus Line" is the music which, despite a smaller orchestra, remains full, the songs memorable (notwithstanding what a critic above found), and the story of desperate gypsies seeking a job remains as intense and human as ever. I recomend it for anyone who saw any part of the original production and for anyone too young to have een a part of that audience. But one tip: Use the restroom BEFORE the opening scene because it's two hours before you get another chance. |

| i recently saw a chorus line in ny. it seems like everyone compares it to the original, but having never seen the show before, i really enjoyed it. at the end i was surprised 2 hours had passed. the only part that didn't completely amuse me was cassies solo. seemed stretched out to me. but other than that it was really a good show, funny and greeaatt dancing. rent is still my favorite, but if you have a chance see it |

Open Mind Review by: , Apr 13, 2007 |
My husband and I recently saw the "new" Chorus Line and enjoyed it alot. When thinking back to the "original", we wonder if it is US who have changed over the years and not the talent? We thought they ALL did a great job. If you can go to the show "again" with an open mind and put it into the context of your life (and the actors), we think you will have a very enjoyable evening. Still the Best Musical on Broadway Review by: Broadway Baby, Apr 3, 2007 |
| An astounding evening all around. I had seen the original production and was concerned the show would be dated or not have the same impact as it had 30 years ago. to my great surprise, the show is as relevant as ever and this cast runs rings around the original cast members. I recommend it to anyone who cares about the musical theatre and is looking for an evening of great entertainment. |

Disappointing Review by: tripp, Feb 8, 2007 |
We were very disappointed with this new version of Chorus Line...language/profanity was disgusting...do not recommend for children or adolescents... However, good singing but overall a disappointment compared to other "big" broadway musicals. |

Review by: elliott, Jan 24, 2007 |
| To all of you who are comparing this revival to the original, I need to stop you. The point of making a revival is not to "out-do" the original, but to bring the original back so a new audience can enjoy it. I am 14 and have seen the show twice. It is one of my favorites. I wasn't around for the first "chorus line". The revival brings the amazing choreography and music to my generation. Changing the choreography would take the experience of it ... read more away from the audience. I thought the show was incredible. A classic will ALWAYS be a classic. I highly recommend seeing this show. |

Not a Sensation Review by: Broadway Gal, Jan 15, 2007 |
What a disappointment! Compared to the original, this falls flat. It's not the script or the music, it's the actors. They're just not that good vs the original cast and even the replacements that went in over the years.
Cassie's solo fell very flat and seemed rehearsed instead of joyful and spontaneous--we miss you Donna McKechnie!
Frankly, it felt like I was seeing a college production instead of a Broadway cast. Not a star in ... read more the bunch. Sad. |

IT'S AS GOOD AS IT GETS Review by: BigKen, Jan 13, 2007 |
| I had mixed emotions about seeing this performance of A CHORUS LINE, since the original was one of my favorites. I was immediately set at ease from the get go. The show was as good as the original, and I enjoyed the variation of the finale. Everyone who has ever worked can relate to the anticipation of getting their first job! It was so good to hear the music once more. I will go back to see it again. |
