MUST SEE BEFORE IT ENDS!!! Don't listen to the critics!!! Review by: Elphaba, Aug 24, 2009 |
| This is one of the best musicals I've ever seen. Don't tell me I liked it because I am a tourist and I don't know any other musicals to compare with. Yes, I traveld to New York from Los Angels to see "Broadway" musicals. However, I see musicals at least once a month In L.A. Great music, great performers, great choreography, and great sets. I usually find at least one cast member (sometimes more) that appears to be unsuitable for the role. ... read more I did not find any in this production!!! All the leads, including Mr. Hart, were perfect, and they were all believable. There were no dull moments. It is unfortunate that because of those negative reviews by some "out of touch" critics (as you can see most of the audience reviews disagree with the critics') that the production should end so soon on Broadway. I hope they will receive more appropriate reviews once they start the tour. I will definitely see it again when it comes to L.A. |

I loved it!! Review by: Beth, Aug 3, 2009 |
| It was, to put it simply, incredible. Although it may not be the most epic musical ever created, it still is an incredibly fun and well-performed show. The 3 leading ladies are just fabulous, the acting is terrific, the songs are catchy, and it is overall, a wonderful show. I would definitely see it again, if given the chance. |

Working 9 to 5 is much easier with this show in town!!! Review by: poppins35, Jul 25, 2009 |
Saw this show expecting a mimic of the movie, and I got much more than I bargained for!! This show is high energy, high laughter, and at one point in time, the actresses are getting high. The timing, the music, and the dancing made this show a true pleasure. The three actresses playing the parts, as well as Marc Kudish who plays Franklin, feed off of each other with emotion and stamina. I smiled from the opening number until the finale. I ... read more remember watching the movie and at times getting bored due to the lack of energy. There is no lack of energy in this production and no time to get bored. The music is memorable and is placed perfectly into the production. Stephanie Block's solo towards the end is just excellent!! Go see this production- it is fun, it is lively - it is a night out that makes working 9 to 5 so much more bearable. Highly recommend it!! |

See it for the performances Review by: hen88, Jul 25, 2009 |
I'm not really a fan of formulaic musicals based on popular movies, but I'll admit that this was really cute. The whole thing rested on the performances, which were just heavenly. It was like getting fillet mignon at a Burger King. Allison Janney, Stephanie Block, and Megan Hilty were pure butter! They made a predictable and corny story absolutely thrilling. The production values were very sleek and the pacing of the show moved ... read more effortlessly, but I have to say that the choreography was utterly atrocious. Overall, this show was a genuinely fun night out at the theater. |

Wonderful Review by: Alberto, Jul 23, 2009 |
Being a huge fan of the original movie, I was beyond ecstatic when I heard that they were bringing it to Broadway and they definitely brought it in a diverse way. Like the film, the musical is set in 1979 and it is an all out comedy, Judy (Block), Doralee (Hilty) and Violet (Janney), the three office workers who were "just a step on the boss man’s ladder," in my opinion came to life on Broadway. Though not a particularly challenging story, ... read more “9 to 5” is an uplifting tale of “girl-power” and ultimately women's rights. But due to its cheery, happy-ending nature, it translates pretty effectively to the stage and the show is as over the top as you would expect from a theatre extravaganza with Parton at the helm. For what it's worth, “9 to 5” is an enjoyable musical theatre experience. This isn't a Broadway ground-breaker by any means, but it is a fun and a happy-go-lucky feel-good musical, I'll be the first to admit that my primary reason for seeing this Musical was for Allison Janney (Violet). Janney, by the way, is utterly hilarious both because she's an incredible actor (most people know her from "The West Wing," but she was Juno's mother in the movie “Juno” and also the guidance counselor-cum-erotica author in "10 Things I Hate About You") but also because her singing is...a bit weak, nevertheless her comedic timing and Dolly Parton’s songwriting abilities, she pulls it off beautifully. I recommend this Musical to anyone who ever wanted to get even with the boss and for the most part do not care about the dire consequences. You won't enjoy yourself if you give it too much thought. LOL

9 to 5 is a fun show...even better with discounted tickets! Review by: JWS, Jul 20, 2009 |
Purchased tickets to "9 to 5" a few days prior via BroadwayBox, and got a great discount! ($65 for front row mezzanine on the aisle!) When the lights went down, I was surprised to see that the mezzanine was only 1/3 full (if that). Overall, the show was fun. The dancers were great, the songs were cute, but somewhat forgetable (exception being "9 to 5", which I couldn't get out of my head). The three leading ladies are great...Allison ... read more Janney (as Violet) is a wonderful actress, but clearly the weakest of all three in terms of vocals. Stephanie J. Block (as Judy)was fantastic, as was Megan Hilty (as Doralee). I was a bit disappointed that neither got a good opportunity to show off their vocal range, as both are truly incredible singers. Marc Kudisch (as Mr. Hart..."the boss") was as slimy as slimy can get...totally believe as the creepy boss. (He has a great voice too!) All in all...if you want a fun show...this is a good show to see. If you want a thought-provoking show...go see something else...this is not for you. Having seen many shows myself, I enjoyed this show, but part of that was due to the discount and seats! (I might have been a tad disappointed had I paid full price for these tickets.) Use BroadwayBox to get a discount, and go see this show if you get a chance!

You'll be tapping your feet and singing along (in you head) Review by: Tracey Luvs B-way, Jul 16, 2009 |
| What a fun upbeat musical - you just can't help yourself from tapping your foot and singing the songs (to yourself) during the musical numbers. I saw this show with 7 of my girl friend and they all enjoyed too. Allison Janney plays the part of Violet (Lilly Tomlin's movie part)and she's amazing. I've seen her movies, but this was the first time for me to see her on stage, she didn't disappoint. You will get pulled into the show from the ... read more moment the curtain opens with a very clever dance number. When the show ends you will want more. |

What's Wrong With the Critics? Review by: seansgm, Jul 16, 2009 |
| Can't understand why the critics were negative on this and it was so much better than they said. Great high energy performances, dynamic production and music. The audience, the cast and the conductor all seemed to have a great time. If you want to have some fun go see it! |

| WHAT A PLEASANT SURPRISE! We were expecting a good show, but 9 to 5 was terrifc. It was very funny and fast paced. We really enjoyed the songs, music and even though we were familiar with the story, we were entertained the entire time. The four leads played off of each other very well. |

Energetic performances and set design offset ridiculous plot Review by: JW, Jul 7, 2009 |
| Here's a show which presents serious workplace issues via a ludicrous plot. Nevertheless, the exhuberant and energetic cast makes this production an enjoyable experience. As mentioned by many others on this site, the set design is indeed exceptional, with each scene flowing seamlessly into the next. Although presented in a comical manner, sexual harassment scenes make show unsuitable for young children. Recommended at the discount price. |
