Mare Winningham Review by: Dana, Jul 10, 2007 |
| Whatever anyone says about this play, it must be stressed that Mare Winningham is about as magnificent as one can be on stage. Her voice is truly transcendent. New York deserves her, and I hope she finds much success in future Broadway shows. |

Fabulous Acting and I loved the music Review by: schubeda, Jun 25, 2007 |
I didn't know what to expect from this show and I was very pleasantly surprised. I thought the show was very personal and emotional. The acting is phenomenal. Mare Winningham is very convincing, playing 6 different female characters. Irene Molloy is just stunningly beautiful with a powerful voice. I felt every emotion along with her character, especially towards the end of the show.
Yes, the music is a but twangy, but I like that ... read more sort-of thing. Its music from Patty Griffin, just so you know what to expect.
Its nothing like Spring Awakening, but I absolutely loved it and definitely think its worth seeing. I actually liked it more than Spring Awakening... |

Excellent, understated, with great music and lyrics Review by: Coldwne, Jun 1, 2007 |
Episodic and infused with melancholy, with fantastic lyrics and music, 10 Million Miles fully delivered. The focal point is always the songwriting by Patty Griffin, an alternative country performer. It embraces everyday experiences in a way which illuminates and defines these moments with fine texture and meaning.
The performances are uniformly terrific, and the backing band (located above and to the rear of the stage) is wonderful.... read more. The diverse audience all seemed enthralled. This was one of those rare times when the show ended, I wanted more. Recommended! |

I did not like this show -- but someone else might Review by: battery park, May 27, 2007 |
I went to the Atlantic Theater with high hopes for this production. I am a big fan of Spring Awakening which I saw several times at the Atlantic Theater and once on Broadway. Learning that the same director was behind another musical at the Atlantic, I jumped at the opportunity to see the show in previews. I was bored to tears.
This show is more Urban Cowboy than Spring Awakening. Too edgy for Branson because of a few words and ... read more some thematic elements, the show is not edgy enough for New York. If you are moved by country music on the radio, then you may find something that appeals to you, but I am not that person, so neither the music nor the story moved me.
While waiting for the show to start (I think it started late because people realized that they should use the bathrooms, located behind the stage, before the show on learning that the show runs without an intermission) I had plenty of time to read the Playbill. This was a musical, or rather a group of songs with some spoken words in between, but there was no choreographer credited in the Playbill. Perhaps the choreographer did not want to be associated with the production. Perhaps the actors were only instructed to move and dance as they see fit. No matter what is responsible for the dance movement on stage, it is clear that attention must be paid to the choreography.
I will not spell out the plot or quote the author as I feel that is unfair, but I will try to illustrate the level of humor. Jokes are on par with "What type of music do you like? Both -- country and western." If that is the type of thing that makes you laugh, you may enjoy this show. It just wasn't for me. |
