Viva Elvis....Baloney Review by: Steveo33, Feb 23, 2010 |
This was probably the biggest rip off that I have personally expierenced in 40 years of attending Broadway type shows. In a word it was: terrible. Do not waste your money on this disorganized over priced mess. |

Elvis Cleary Has Left This Building Review by: French, Jan 25, 2010 |
| As big Elvis and Cirque fans, who were wowed by LOVE, we had high expectations for this show. What a BIG disappointment. While we did enjoy a couple of the numbers, and realized this was a "soft opening"....does the show stopping for 10 minutes due to the "fire alarm" being set off by flaming lasos really happen when you pay over $100 per ticket?? That whole number should be scrubbed, it bordered on the absurd and in no way honored the memory ... read more of Elvis. And the worst part of the whole show was that it lacked "Elvis" - his musical versitility, his persona. The one bright spot, killer band, especially drummers and guitar player. CDS, we have come to your shows with anticipation of what's next....this was just more of the same, without paying homage to the "King". |

If you're an Elvis Fan you won't be disappointed. Review by: Love Vegas Shows, Jan 25, 2010 |
| Saw this show January 17. My husband and I are huge Elvis fans. We liked the show, and we are glad we went but would probably never put out that kind of money to see it again. (We have seen LOVE three times) Because we know alot about Elvis' life, we got all the symbolism - the comic book characters were a bit far fetched but acrobatics made up for it. If you are an Elvis person, you won't be disappointed that you went to see it, if for ... read more no other reason than to say you did. Don't get your hopes up to be wowed. And don't expect a BIG leave-you-wanting- more ending because it's just not there. We sat third row balcony, dead center in the theater, beautiful theater, good seats, very little audience reaction to anything during the show and nobody jumped to their feet for the ovation in fact only a handful of people in balcony gave a standing O. |

First Cirque rip-off. Avoid. Really, really bad. Review by: Gus, Jan 15, 2010 |
I absolutely agree with TVbrat100. I saw all of the Cirque shows in Vegas. I even saw Cirque shows that I didn't like (Wintuk, Delirium). But this show (?) is the first one that makes me feel angry. The creativity was abysmal, laughable. I can't believe CDS is allowing its name on this. Just to name a few things... - The MC (Col. Tom Parker) was horrible. The whole character felt forced on the show. You could feel the audience ... read more being uncomfortable. - The stage is giant, most of the time it feels empty (I guess they saw that, so the try to patch it with a flying Elvis wig with glasses... WTF!!!). The actors look like ants. - Creativity is embarrassing. The cake scene with dancers on roller blades? The engagement rings? Video montages after video montages? The shoe? - No emotional connection with the audience. In fact, no connection at all! Don't waste your money on this. If you like Cirque Du Soleil, avoid this train wreak! Gus |

If Elvis was dead he'd roll over in his grave! Review by: Atlanta Jim, Jan 7, 2010 |
| I saw Viva Elvis December 18 and was amazed. Nothing about he show works! After feeling physically abused by the atrocious casino Aria - it looks like the inside of Ripley's spaceship in Aliens only not as warm and friendly I stood in a lobby that had all the charm of a gutted cat fish. First impression of the theater - big and ugly. The ushers looked like escapees from a soup kitchen. The show itself opened with an energetic rock and roll ... read more number but then derailed and never recovered. A Mack Truck sized blue suede shoe (only one shoe as if Elvis had only one foot), a bizarre homo-erotic ballet on a giant guitar, an incomprehensible gymnastic interpretation of Jail House Rock did not prepare me for the outrageous 'wedding' celebration in which a talented African American diva topped a five storey wedding cake surrounded by dancing male roller bladers and ballerinas in tutus; the wedding cake transformed into a Macy's blimp sized wedding dress before melting into the stage. It has to be seen to be believed but it's not worth the price of admission to take this Elvis tour as conducted by the Barnum like Colonel Tom Parker. My compassion is extended to the performers. You seem talented. Good luck on your next show, start looking now. |

If you hate Cirque you will LOVE Viva Elvis! Review by: VegasResident, Jan 5, 2010 |
| I saw Viva Elvis on Jan 2 and it was the most entertaining hour and a half I have had in a long time - and I have seen every show on the strip. It is not fair to bill this as a Cirque du Soleil show and quite honestly Cirque should have no part of the name. I am not an Elvis fan and I HATE.. DETEST..(insert any other such adjective here) Cirque shows. What drives me bonkers about their style is during those times when people have to ... read more change costumes etc. they slow the show down to a crawl ... literally .. by having these Marcel Marceau wanna bees walk across the stage slowly... every... single... time.. over .. and over.. again. Well, Viva Elvis handles it differently by showing movie clips of his life or having "Col. Tom Parker" (Elvises manager) narrate his life. The energy is upbeat throughout. I loved it, but I can see if English is not your language you might get a bit lost. The other thing I loved was that they take Elvis songs and "re-mix" them - giving everything a fresh spin and pulling his music into the 22nd century. My 11 year old can't stop singing the songs now. The other highlight, aside from some wonderful acrobatics, is that nothing on stage is superfluous has some associated meaning. The ending number, for instance, has a staircase in it where the rails are lightning bolts. (If you don't know what that means google TCB and Elvis). During his war years the girls costumes look like they are made out of those old fashion airmail envelopes. You know the kind with the red and blue slashes on the side? Anyway, you really have to see this show. The theater by the way is also quite plush with plenty of leg room once in your seat and elegant wooden rails with cup holders in front of you. Most theaters forget about the creature comforts when trying to pack in as many ticket holders as fold up chairs will allow. The long and short? This is a MUST SEE! |

Viva Elvis- Run away! Don't go! Review by: tvbrat100, Jan 2, 2010 |
| Our family saw Viva Elvis at the Saturday Dec. 19th preview show. We love Cirque shows (well maybe except for Criss Angel)... Seen them all many times. We were looking forward to Viva Elvis. They had years to get it ready, a new custom built theater, an empty canvass to work from. RUN AWAY FAST DO NOT GO. We felt nothing for the characters, for the story, for the show, even though there were a few nice moments. No emotional ... read more connection between the linear normal stage story and the audience. Faint applause at the end of the show. We paid over $108 per ticket and felt very ripped off. We won't trust Cirque again. I have seen problem shows get through their growing pains and become great shows (KA or La Reve). There is NO HOPE for this one unless they start from scratch. but I will never get back that 91 minutes or more than $600 bucks for our family tickets that night. Shame on Cirque for showing this nothing production to the public but I guess shame on me for trusting Cirque. Never again. TVbrat100, Toronto |
