Timon, a rich and generous Athenian, showers his friends with gifts and hospitality. When the money runs out Timon turns to his 'friends' for help. One by one they refuse. Timon, enraged and penniless, hides in the woods outside the city where he finds gold, some of which he shares with Alcibiadies, himself unjustly banished, and his loyal servant. Having no use for the money, Timon plans his revenge on the city.
Simon Russell Beale takes the title role in Shakespeares strange fable of conspicuous consumption, debt and ruin, written in collaboration with Thomas Middleton.
