Golda's Balcony, William Gibson’s solo play, is a portrait of the legendary Golda Meir, the Milwaukee schoolteacher who became Prime Minister of Israel in 1969. From the pogroms of Russia to the halls of the Knesset, Meir's life encapsulates the dramatic story of the birth of Israel in the wake of the Holocaust, and its subsequent seemingly endless struggle for peace for much of the 20th Century.
Golda's Balcony premiered at the Manhattan Ensemble Theatre in New York, becoming an instant smash. When it transferred to Broadway, it played for 17 months making it the longest running one-woman show in Broadway history, winning awards for best solo performance and best actress.
